About the island

Known for

Gaafaru, lying on the eastern end of a large elliptical reef on the northern tip of Male’ atoll is the perfect display of Maldivian culture and rustic island life. The channel to the north of the island known as Kaashidhoo Kuda Kan’du has long being a shipping lane. Over the years, a number of ships have drifted too far south in the channel and ended up on the Gaafaru reef leaving remains of the shipwreck making it home for corals and varieties of other marine lives and a popular site among divers. The guest houses in the island offer affordable accommodation and range of activities including shipwreck diving, snorkelling, fishing and cruising and many other water sports activities.
