 An occasion where everyone travels back to their home islands away from city life, Eid gathers all communities with food, culture and traditions. Various games, celebratory activities and feasts take place making it the most prominent event celebrated by Maldivians every year.  

Vaavu

Thinadhoo is only island in the Maldives with pure concessions of protecting the environment in its natural form by banning all types of electrical and motor vehicles in the island. 

We say “ no” to all types of vehicles. 

Located in Vaavu atoll, with its pristine waters and pearl white sands, Thinadhoo remains as one of the most praised islands in the Maldives for its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere. 

Vaavu atoll itself is the lowest populated atoll in the nation with only 5 inhabited islands in total. Of the 5 islands, Thinadhoo is the least populated, with the resident population amounting to a mere 231 people as of July, 2021. Its beauty and its unrivaled calmness are sought out by locals and foreign travelers alike. With just12 hectors of land comprising white sandy beaches, untouched woods, tropical jungles, a close-knit community and a freshly booming tourism sector. 

The marine fauna surrounding the island is mesmerizing to say the least. Friendly nurse sharks patrolling the island often come to the shoreline hunting schools of baitfish. Thinadhoo constitute a unified people, embracing the same ideologies and cultural values. Social and familial bonds are maintained closely.

The community keeps a close relationship with nature and her bounties, understanding the merit it brings and the importance of conservation. Elders are respected by the youth as they pour generations worth of knowledge, skills and wisdom. From weather predictions, navigations, fishing locations to life skills. The community as a whole is a determined people, guarding their socio-cultural values and advocating for the economic development of the island.

Thinadhoo is one of the smallest islands in the nation, yet blessed with valuable natural resources on and around her. The lush greenery of its small tropical jungle provides a habitat for plenty marine birds and those indigenous to the island.
